Welcome
"Keep fighting for freedom and justice, beloveds,
but don't forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth.
Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy cats, rejoice in all the oddities that
freedom can produce."
That quote from Molly Ivins captures my approach to life and my work more than a lot of the more serious stuff that appears on this site and in my other published writings. The truth of the matter is that I have had a hell of a good time fighting for my view of freedom and justice - and I intend to keep doing it and laughing about it until they haul me away. Molly left us a few days before this was originally written in early 2007 and the papers have been full of tributes that reminded us all of the great fun she had in her pursuit of those same goals. I never met her but like so many other people I loved reading her irreverent words and laughing at her wonderful sense of humor.
How can you not laugh at some of her zingers, such as her explanation for her attitude toward her home state: "I dearly love the state of Texas, but I consider that a harmless perversion my part, and discuss it only with consenting adults."
While this site will have many serious items, remember that at the same time I am having a good time working on it.
The site deals with any subject that catches my fancy. On this home page, I will attempt to post current comments on important events and ideas, as they occur or are expressed anywhere in the world. My major interests are drug policy, terror, anti-Semitism, Israel and the Arabs, and the Boston Red Sox. However, I may comment on many other things, such as the Jewish nature of Jesus, good cooking recipes, or sex. It is after all my site. I am in the eighth decade of my life and claim, with the indulgence of my readers, that I have earned the right to opine about everything. I do not promise to comment every day and I do not promise to post all of the responses and comments I receive but I will try to be as current and as responsive as my time and energy permit. Other sections of this site will contain older material and information categorized primarily by subject matter.
The site I admire the most is the Daily Dish by Andrew Sullivan. Do not be surprised if I adopt many of his practices in working on this one - although I could never keep up with his incredible output every day. -Arnold Trebach |
